The weather has been nasty up here - snow, 40 mph winds, and ice. Here are some of the things I learned this week about surviving a blizzard:
- When it snows over a foot in Ludington, there are no more turn lanes in the middle of the roads. Why? Because they snowplow all of the snow into the turn lanes turning them into snow piles that are 5 feet tall. Fortunately I have not had to use one!
- You should really be driving something with 4 wheel drive. I say this not due to the road conditions, but due to the fact that I really wished I had it in order to get out of my underground parking garage the other day. There was so much snow and ice that I had to have two guys help push me up the steep ramp. They are my heroes! I wish I knew their names and where they lived - I would bake them something.
- Always wear your winter boots outside no matter how hideous they look with your outfit. Your feet will not get cold and you will not slip and fall on your butt.
- Learn to love the sound of the howling wind blowing at your bedroom windows. Or else it will keep you awake all night long!
- Make sure you have all your groceries. I did have all mine, but some people at work didn't and the roads have been nasty.
- Enjoy an adult beverage in the nice, hot bath. This goes a long way to soothing the soul!
P.S. - at 10pm every night there is a loud siren that goes off and it scares the crap out of me every night. Apparently it is the curfew alarm, but it sounds like a tornado siren to me!
Curfew? Who has a curfew and why can't the mommies and daddies just enforce it?!
ReplyDeleteThis sounds strange but I wish we were having that kind of weather...at least it is exciting! If it is going to be nasty cold and gray out, there might as well be 2 feet of snow to go with it!
Might want to put a shovel (and some extra baked goods) in your car!
I know! The curfew siren really threw me for a loop, but I guess that is what happens in a small town. I am packing my car to go home to GR tomorrow and I will pack some baked goods!
